Bought a cheap nasty Umax Kazuki 2800X about a year ago, but it's now having trouble reading discs.
Recently bought a Sony NS36 as a replacement, but found out that it won't play my widescreen DivX/Xvid files correctly, and puts black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, so I returned it.
Having searched these forums, I've found that seems to happen with a few players.
Any suggestions for a player that will play them properly out of the box like my old Kazuki did?
I know it's sometimes fixed by changing PAR settings or something, but as I have a lot of files already burnt to discs that's something I'd like to avoid if possible. Ideally need something under £40, but I'll play extra if it's particularly good.
Not fussed about HDMI or upscaling or stuff like that, as I don't have an HDTV, and no plans to upgrade soon.
Thanks.

Your best bet is to simply take a disc with you to the store and test them yourself. It's possible the issue is with your files and the Sony was working normally. In which case, all of the responses that you get here will likely be for other players that function similar to the Sony and will further waste your time.
