I have an AVI file and a separate SRT subtitle file. I can watch the AVI footage on VLC and the subtitles show file. I would like to convery the AVI file to DV, with subtitles intact. I tried doing it with ffmpegx. I loaded the AVI file in Source format: From. I loaded the subtitle file in Filters: Load subs. I selected DV as the target format. The file was converted but minus the subtitles. I tried a second time, this time taking all spaces out of the file name of the subtitle file. Same result. I tried converting to DVD-ffmpeg instead of DV. Same result. Can anyone help?

I stumbled on the solution: Using ffmpegx, convert the AVI file to AVI XVID mencoder format, adding the subtitle track of course.

Correct: "burning" the subtitle on top of the video is a mencoder feature within ffmpegX, so you need to use a mencoder preset for this.
