  1. Since when converting from raw avi to flv for some reason it doesnt keep the aspect ratio of 16:9

i came up with 2 ways to simulate it, would like to get opinions which one is better

the first one is to resize it so it gets as wide as it would be when 16:9
so basicly from 16:9 720x576 video im making 4:3 512x288

the another one is to just resize it to 352x288, but set the flash player to play in 512x288 and autostrech option on

(i have to resize it from the original res of 720x576 to half of that anyway)

so, which one would be better?
I tested both with jw player and for the same bitrate, i think that 512x288 looks slightly better, but still i would like to hear some opiniouns about it, since this isn't common practice. Maybe there are problems i may expect?

By "raw avi" I assume you mean DV. Raw AVI is a very unusual format.

You could make a 4:3 file with letterbox bars instead.

and what's lost can never be found...

i think that 512x288 looks slightly better
if it looks better it is.
you shouldn't need more confirmation than that.
