  1. I am baffled and stumped .....and damn frustrated!. Expert advise requested.

Ripped The 5th Element using SmartRipper 241. The movie plays fine by opeing the video_ts.ifo file. Player has total control over chapters, fast forward, etc.

Ripped Planet of the Apes with the same SmartRipper settings. Played the video_ts.ifo file and get a 20th century frame saying, "This disc is not formatted to play in this region." That is it, nothing more works.

I get the same message when playing vts_10_0.ifo (main movie is stored at vts_10_xxxxx). If I play the VOB file vts_10_0.vob, the root menu comes up but is non-navigable. If I play vts_10_1.vob, the movie plays but the player has no controls such as fast forward, skip chapter, etc.

I tried all combinations of SmartRipper modes: movie, files, backup; same problem. I am at a total loss of what to try now. Is there some new crack-proofing on newer discs?

Settings exactly the same for both rips (except target location).
    - SmartRipper 241 settings - all defaults,
    - Aspi used by SmartRipper; also aspichk verifies aspi is ok,
    - Win 98se, Asus a7V mobo, Duron 700, latest Via 4in1 drivers,
    - Pioneer 103 DVD, RCP1, no region protection,
    - Zoom Player 2.4 (using Windvd audio, Ravisent video filters)
    - Files ripped to e:\planet_of_the_apes\video_ts\all files
    - Both DVD are region 1 discs.

Thanks for your assistance, ripping experts!

  2. planet of the apes has angles.

    rip with smartripper
    open with IFOedit (http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/Forum/index.php4)
    vob extras
    adjust angles
    strip streams
    strip vob-id's
    create new ifo files
    correct navigation points

    close IFOedit
    open IFOedit

    open new ifo file
    get vts_sectors.

    close
    test
    burn

IFOedit is the key...awesome app by derrow.

  3. Will this take care of the "This disc not formatted for this region message"? Sure seems odd getting this message and the problem being related to angles.

I am trying it now and will post results. Thanks again.

  4. PROBLEM SOLVED.

Turns out Planet of the Apes has RCE embedded. SmartRipper does not fix this, so I had to use Ifoedit to make the backup region free. I did this on the Video_ts.ifo and the Vts_10_0.ifo and the playback is now fine. No more "This disc is not formatted for this region" message.
