Hello All - I just purchased a Gateway fx6860 laptop & had planned on using Premiere Elements 4.0 to edit. However, after loading said program all hell broke loose. As it turns out, Adobe did not test this product on a 64-bit processor.
After doing some research, it appears that CS3 was not tested on 64-bit either and, therefore, it is not guaranteed by Adobe to work. So, my question is...is anyone editing on a 64-bit machine with success? I desperately need to find an editor & authoring program that is stable on a 64-bit platform. We are knee deep in unedited wedding videos & need to find a solution quickly.
BTW - the laptop is running Vista Home Premium. 1.8ghz, 4g ram, nVidia 8800gts...blah, blah, blah...so it is more than capable to handle the Elements version of Adobe & should be okay for CS3 because we are not editing HD video as yet.
Thanks for all help in advance.
Dan

it's not the 64 bit processor that is the problem, but the unsupported 64 bit operating system. if you want to use it for video work, it may be wise to dump vista64 and install xp32.
i would.--

Don't know if this link will help you:
http://www.vistax64.com/software/99960-vista-64-adobe-cs3-problems.html
Some people on it have posted CS3 works others have issues and some no luck. Basic advice is to turn off UAC and right-click on the set-up file and choose properties->compatibility tab->xp sp2
Also try 'run as administrator.
I run CS2 all the time on my VIsta 64 machine, but that it Photoshop only. Haven't really done any heavy duty video editing, use mostly Womble, VirtualDub and then Proshow Producer these days.
WHen all else fails you can always run a Virtual Machine and install XP in it. I use Virtual Box with W2K installed in it from time to time.

The VX2100 is a standard DV camcorder and doesn't require any drivers. Everything is provided by Windows. All of my Sony DV devices work fine with Vista (32 and 64).
Have a look at my troubleshooting guide (some bits don't apply to Vista):

Interesting...my camera is not being recognized. I went on the Sony website & it clearly states that the vx2100 is not supported by Vista64. I just cleaned off my computer & installed the 32-bit version of Vista. When there is more software support for 64, I will go back.
Thanks for your help. -
If you take a look at this page:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=128
it says that the 64-bit start version of Vista (Vista Basic) isn't supported but the table shows that i.Link (FireWire) connection for the VX2100 is supported on other versions.
What show's up in your device manager (per my guide)?
