Wish I'd paid better attention 8) when somebody described jacking from the headphone out to the audio in to record stuff that isn't available by podcast...
but that was XP anyway.
Any recommendations on the best way to set this up in Vista?
I'd prefer a minimalist approach so the laptop can still be used for other stuff without causing stuttering in the streaming audio.

In XP most audio cards have the option of recording "What you hear" or "Stereo Mix". These are digital connections to what the sound card is sending to the speakers. That is, whatever audio being sent to the speakers is also sent to the recording application.

I don't know if Vista still has this option. Microsoft may have eliminated it to please Hollywood.

I use AudioMagic to capture streaming audio. Now known as Yogen Recorder

By the way, if you record "what you hear" you will also get all the little clicks, beeps, and buzzes that Windows makes while you run other applications. Best to turn most of those off.
