As a newbie to this site (and to the Video World) I hope this post is in the right forum.

I have copied a number of family VHS tapes to DVD without difficulty using a Panasonic Combo DVD Recorder (Model: DMR – EZ45VEBS). However when some of the VHS tapes are viewed the running time and other information about mode etc is displayed on the screen. These distracting details have been copied over to the DVDs.

Is there a simple way of editing the DVDs to remove these details?

Thanks in advance for any advice about this matter.

Yep, recopy them and make sure you have the onscreen display turned off.

If it is something that was recorded onto the original VHS it's a bit harder as they are part of the video & not something you can just turn off or remove like a switchable subtitle.

You can use something like logoaway with Vdub but this requires a re-ecoding of the video and will leave a small blurry spot where you have used it to remove the text.

Easier to just retransfer the VHS tapes again.

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

I followed your advice and viewed VHS tape with onscreen display turned off but it made no difference. Therefore it would appear that the information is embedded in the original recording.

As these DVDs will not be viewed very often, being just a historical record of family events, I guess we can live with the distraction.

    Thanks again for your advice.

Try the filter suggested above, there is another one called delogo with some pretty good results for static material like that.

You could get creative and cover it up with a nice looking overlay like a reproduction of the date, make your own logo etc.
