I need to show several simultaneous time-synced video and data streams together on the same screen. I have video and then at least three, possibly more data plots that will be animated and put into the appropriate format: 1) video of events, 2) weather data, 3) several other data streams. The weather and data streams can be converted to an animated movie of some sort I am sure, but I need to synchronize all these various screens.

I have no idea where to start, even what kind of commercial operation to contact on how to do such a thing, or what software package(s)/hardware solutions potentially exist. My lingo might be wrong as well.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

You can do this directly in a resonable video editor using overlays and moving paths.

    The technique is called picture-in-picture.

Thanks for the reply. Any recommendation for a reasonable editor with this capability that doesn't have too steep of a learning curve? And that doesn't require a second mortgage to obtain?

    Thanks

Ulead Media Studio. I use version 7 so it's not the latest one but I do find it easy that version 8.

And because it's an older one you may find a copy a lot cheaper.

So this isn't reacting to multiple live data streams ?

Then editing existing tapes with multiple overlays is easy to do.

I'd also second Ulead MediaStudio Pro. It's what I always use and I shoot the same scene from different angles simultaneously and then cut from one to the other. When deciding which shot to use I apply a Picture in Picture moving path to each one so I can watch them all at once.

This does assume you are talking about recorded video streams though and not live as Ed has picked up on.

    Thanks for the responses.

Yes, the video is recorded, not live, so it sounds like MediaStudioPro is the crowd's choice. I'll check it out.

    Thanks

Ulead video studio is best option. even you can put 6 videos as overlay track and it has much more options like pan zoom scroll etc.

BTW you can download trial version and try for 30 days

Ulead Videostudio is the hobbyists version, MediaStudio Pro is, as the name (and price) suggests, the fully featured version. It doesn't have any wizards or hand holding but is capable of far more than Videostudio ever will be. Up to 99 overlay tracks rather than just 6 for example (not that I can think of any time when this would be needed but just one difference). However, there is a 30 day free trial of both available from www.ulead.com.
