i know that for for best efficiency i need 16x width and height... i'm assuming thats because the blocks are 16x16.

now the question is, when encoding FLV (Sorenson H263) how can i have FFMPEG (or other tool) encode using 8x8 blocks?

    i'd say no.

one would have to read through a spec sheet to get a good answer,
but sorenson spark is not open.

reading through the ffmpeg code would be another approach.

you could also just try -8x8dct and see how it pans out.

also i've never tried flix or squeeze,
so you'd have to get hands on and try reaching the screws.

still, i don't think spark has variable block size mc.
    but i've been wrong before,
i thought in-loop blocking started with h264, when it actually had birth with h263+.

and even then, just because something is spec, doesn't mean it has any decent implementation.

    in short,
i think you're barking up the wrong tree.
