    Hey there,

Bit of a strange question, since I want to convert from a "HR HDTV AC3" avi files to the lower resolution format. Why? Becuase I have a DVD player that play's avi files but it states it has "No Codec" for the following file:

    D:\Battlestar Galactica Season 2 HRHD\Battlestar.Galactica.S2E11.INTERNAL.HR.HDTV.A C3.2.0.XviD-SSTS.avi

    File : 700 MB (700 MB), duration: 0:42:22, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 84 %, MEncoder dev-CVS-050928-16:38-3.4.2, ,
    Video : 583 MB, 1926 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 960*544 (16:9), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
    Audio : 116 MB, 384 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x2000 = AC3, CBR, , Supported

However it will play the smaller, more standard avi files, eg:

    D:\nedivx-vapo.avi

    File : 699 MB (699 MB), duration: 1:30:04, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 51 %, VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.2 (build 2540/release), ,
    Video : 614 MB, 953 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 624*256 (2.43:1), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
    Audio : 85 MB, 132 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, CBR, , Supported

Normally I would just ask, "Can you convert from MPEG 4 to MPEG3" or something similar, but I am a bit confounded here, since both video streams say MPEG4, and only the audio stream seems different, however I am still of the opinion the HR video component is the culprit for the video not playing on my player...

Note: my DVD player is a component player, and does not have upgradeable codec's, as far as I am aware..

    Any thoughts?

  3. Both videos use Xvid (MPEG4) for the video. Audio is MP3 in one, AC3 in the other. Your player probably supports both audio types. You need to resize the video frame down to a size you player can handle. Try 640x368 or 704x400. Use a program like VirtualDub or AviDemux.
