I use a laptop to burn my DVds most of the time. I'm not sure if Keeping the power source on during the burning process has any effect to the quality of the burning. Though I usually keep the battery fully charged before burning DVDs.
Will turning the power on improve the quality of the burn?

Using the optical drive is one the more power draining things you can do on a laptop. In theory though, if the battery is charged and the power saver utilities are set correctly, you should still get a good burn, even off the mains.
That said, laptop batteries still degrade over time, and I don't trust power saving utilities to do what I say, so I always have mine on the mains with power saving turned off when burning DVDs.Read my blog here.
