  1. what program is the best to transfer a dv to my computer to be able to send by email. i want to be able to send a few 5 minutes clips by email and was wondering what program converts the best in terms or quality and file size. also what format is the most usefull in terms of email. is it mpeg avi real wmv.

    You can't expect to do that unless its a service specifically set up for it. I know my ISP has such a service but they most likely store the file locally and send the video as a link., Most mail servers will bounce email exceeding 2MB but it depends on the server...

    Having said that try WMM .

    if you have a hotmail account you can get a 5GB skydrive to store files on. it allows the creation of shared or public folders. you could upload it there and then download it to any computer. 50MB limit per file.

    You can upload pretty large files to somewhere like www.megaupload.com or similar - free file sharing websites - and then email the YRL you get given to download it from.

    In terms of file format, Xvid with VirtualDub would be one of the good choices. There'll be plenty of tutorials listed on the VirtualDub tool page.
