    Is there any way to convert a .mpg file to a .dat file so i can burn it onto a vcd?

    There are indeed, but i suggest you follow the guides on the left. To convert an Mpg so it is vcd complient follow a guide unde the convert category and then use a guide under the Author section. You'll be needing some new software as well.
