Hello, I've had this problem for months and it's dirving me nuts! I can't open the audio MPEG 3 Layer on xvid.avi video. It opens the video to timeline but doesn't show audio. Some important codec is missing... I downloaded tons of codecs... ending with K-lite codec pack but nothing!

I'm trying to open thouse 350meg xvid TV series videos downloaded with torrents.

1: start - settings - sounds and multimedia devices - hardware - audio codecs - lame - remove
    and then re-install lame ACM.

    2: Install l3codecx.exe

    3: Install ffdshow

One of the above should get it moving.

  4. Try using VirtualDub to save the audio as WAV and import it.

    Edit:

"1: start - settings - sounds and multimedia devices - hardware - audio codecs - lame - remove
    and then re-install lame ACM."

Hmm, i don't have that directory, i am using XP. I go Start- control panel - Sound speech and audio devices - hardware and there isn't LAME.

There's "Audio codecs" and "legacy audio devices" and some other unimportant stuff. (notaudio) like "Legacy video capture devices" , am i in the wrong place? I installed all the three codecs you gave me, still no good...

Well, if i use virtualdub to save it to wav, it opened it nicely on the timeline for one of my videos
but it gets my video out of sync... because the audio comes like 1 sec longer then the video is...

Did you actually install LAME ? There is an inf file in the LAME folder that needs to be installed. If you did install it then you will see LAME ACM MP3 in the Add/Remove list.

Try loading the video into AVI Demux. When it prompts to build a Time Map, answer Yes/OK. Set the audio type to WAV PCM, then click on Audio -> Save and save a new WAV file (don't forget the file extension in the name). Load this into Vegas and see if you still have sync problems.
