I have been trying for 2 days to figure out why I cant transcode AC3 audio! I am runing Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I have tried to uninstall K-Light-Codec Pack and reinstall, and use Codec utilities like Codec Sniper, Codec Tweak, GSpot. Yet I cant figure out the problem. Started occuring while using meGUI, I would just get status: error and very little in logs:

Starting job job3 at 9:23:37 PM

    Starting preprocessing of job...

    Preprocessing finished!

    successfully started encoding

    Processing ended at 9:23:40 PM

    ------------------------------------------------------

    Log for job job3

    Input: Channels=2, BitsPerSample=16, SampleRate=48000Hz
    Command line used: E:\Program Files\megui\tools\lame\lame.exe --abr 128 -h --silent - "E:\Users\Tyrel\Desktop\New Folder\T2\T2 T02 2_0ch 192Kbps DELAY -608ms.mp3"

    Error:

    ------------------------------------------------------

    End of log for job3

    Transcode? To what?

I use VirtualDub most times with the AC3 ACM Decompressor and convert to WAV, then encode it to the desired format. Or if it's AC3 5.1, I usually just leave it in that format and use it with the re-encoded video.

And I would put as much distance between your computer and K-Lite as possible. It has a known history of stuffing computer systems. If you need a particular codec, just install it. The 'shotgun' approach of codec packs will just give you more problems than cures. JMO.

    And welcome to our forums.

VD isn't the only way, just works for me. You might also want to add the LAME MP3 ACM codec for more options if you want to re-encode the WAV file to MP3. Audacity also accepts WAV and MP3 files if you need at bit of 'fine tuning' on the audio. All freeware. If you save out the WAV with VD, make sure you use full audio processing or you may end up with a incorrect file.

I tried VD but I am working with the demuxed AC3 track, and VD would only let me open a valid video file. As for Audacity I had also tried this approach only to get weird high pitch sounds when importing the AC3 file. I am stumped and embarrassed. I think Direct show might be doing something afoul, do you know of any tools that will wipe all codecs and direct show? BTW thanks for your help

I missed that you were using a demuxed file. VD can't open audio only files and Audacity doesn't open AC3 audio. Sorry. There may be some tools in our Audio Encoder section: https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/audio-encoders

Use Besweet with Belight as GUI

edit: if you have problems in conversion, first use ac3fix on the ac3 file.
