  1. I have thousands of VHS and Hi8 to restore. Please guide me about hardware based solutions. I have been going through the forum and I am heavy in the head. I have been trying to find all the equipments that have been listed like signvideo Image enhancer and Proc Amp, BVP4, VPA 331 etc. I wrote to sign video and they say they dont make PAL. All my video are in PAL. Could not find any on ebay too.

So if there is any new hardware solution that is available today Please advise. Datavideo TBC 1000 is still available and have ordered a new one. But I am still looking for imange enhancer, proc amp. Apart from these if there is any high end solution please guide.

lordsmurf and gshelly and all other experts in this forum please help. Thank you

  4. I made the "mistake" of presuming my vhs collection needed restoring, so went through trying /buying/selling loads of equipment, including Elite Video BP4, sign video , still have a vidicraft 3, and in many cases a good vcr , not necessarilly the much touted JVC s-vhs with tbc/dnr, and a good dvd recorder did the trick.

Using the same vcr that the vhs was recorded on is a good start or at least the same brand.

first of all see if the simple method gets good results.

I reecently bought a very good condition ag1800 NTSC panasonic vcr, and boy oh boy do my ntsc vhs's look good, for my eyes it does produce a nicer picture than the tbc/dnr jvc's, sorry Lordsmurf.

Remember that, there are so many brands of tv's etc because we all have different value judgements on quality.

Do the bulk , which I am sure have been recorded properly, using a vcr and dvd recorder, see what you get, then put the troublesome ones to one side.

  5. Thanks. In fact I have already started doing that. All the goodones I have started working upon. I was talking only about the bad ones that have excellent content but bad quality. I do nt want to loose them. So I wanted to correct them

  6. you need:

    1) a vhs tape cleaner/inspector, see here
    2) a brand new s-vhs unit with tbc/dnr system preferably with gold plated pin output (if that exist but never seen personnally)
    3) a semi pro capture card (see canopus product) or a good dvd recorder
    4) virtualdub/avisynth/neatvideo filter

All this to get optimum results

    best regards
