Think I found a fix for TMPG to DVDit:
(should have same problems with some other authorers, and this should fix those as well)
in TMPGeng select settings button at bottom, opening up new window.
in new window, select the third tab at the top (GOP structure)
select "Output interval of sequence header" and use a value of 1
What this dose is put an instance of a sequence(gop set) header for EVERY ONE instance of gop. ie. it put a header in front of each gop, rather than not
enjoy -
To fix an MPEG you have already encoded but where you forgot to put sequence headers in:

hey, i have a couple of questions. PLEASE help!!
ok, so i can burn the files created in DVDit with another application, right? that means i can save it and burn the files with VCDEasy, right? then which kind of file is created? an mpeg? i need an mpeg to create my svcd, and i really rather use vcdeay that i'm already used to. also, how many files are created? i mean, everything is saves as one file, or it creates a menu file, a movie file, etc?
can i add an intro for that (video before the menu kicks in, that means, after the video is done, the main menu automatically appears).
any help would be highly appreciated!
take care. -
I keep getting an error that says something like cannot complete last command because PG found no video. whats up with this sometimes it does it and other times it doesnt I use TMPGEnc 2.5 and sometimes reencoding seems to be the answer but not always. HMMMmmm.

I see people having problems
I been having a few myself, for a start you may have problems with SVCD and Large files
I tried to add a large Movie file 4GB to it, and it just kept shutting down and giving me errors
reason for this, I have ripped 2 moivies and then used TMPEGNC and Merged 2 1.9Gb files together, seems I was stupid for doing this. Seems DVDIT and a few other programs have problems with LARGE files
I then tried to add the 2 seperate files that i had Merged together, and no joy again still getting the error and shutting down,, reason being its SVCD format
still working at it, and will report back once i finish it, Trying to add 2 DVD Quailty Movies to one DVDR,, damn is it really this much hassel haha -
ok, my question is about the chapters: it says to double click in the chapter point and move it to the previwe window. but how will i know where the chapter point will be? do i have to play the whole movie to mark the chapters?
someone please!! -

Hi Guys,
Baldrick, excellant guide
To try to hit on a couple of the above questions.
First a little conclusion - DVDit is an excellant, easy to use, QUICK, and thorough little authoring tool
Aside from Baldrick's guide I'd recommend reading the manual. Between the 2 you will be flying and creating excellant discs in no time.
Some points regarding some questions above -
Movies or Menu's are always linked by either a button or text
To add your own buttons or backgrounds you have created (ie jpg's, etc simply go to program files / sonic solutions / themes / - at this point you can make theme directories, or simply add them into either the Buttons folder or the Backgrounds folder - when you next boot up dvdit they will be choices to author with.
Regarding ac3 audio - one of DVDit's only limitations (aside from no full motion menu's, which is a shame, but..)
Anyhow DVDit will only take 2 channel ac3's - I am using this for recompilaing VCD/SVCD stuff, so I don't mind this at the moment as all my mp2 ->ac3's are only 2 channel - anyhow, to add ac3's you must first add the video track to either it's button/text/thumbnail link THEN add the ac3 track on top of it.
Regarding resizing VCD/SVCD stuff, the DVDPatcher method is hit and miss.....I have simply been avisynth serving the M1v/M2v's through CCE rather than dealing with it working and not working off and on......
If you've added the System file (Muxed Mpg) you can add the ac3 overtop and it'll bounce the Mp2 audio - to add audio to a menu, simply drag and drop the ac3 onto the background
I have been simply authoring it all with Elementary streams - m1v/VCD - m2v/SVCD - and Ac3's
The biggest point to get across I guess is DVDit is very visual and utilizes fully Windows drag and drop functions for creating it's linking and routings. If you get that thought down it is easy as can be.
A last point, while being an excellant authroing tool, it is NOT the quickest encoder. Therefore I STRONGLY RECOMMEND encoding all your Video Streams and Audio Ac3 Streams up front - if you have them all encoded, it takes only approx. 15 minutes to transcode the files and create your v/a TS folders - then I usually burn it from DVDIt, but about 1 hour to burn. Done
I hope I hit on some undiscussed areas in question, again, if you have a spare 20 minutes, and you're able to read through it's user manual http://www.dvdit.com/support_manuals.html , as well as complimenting it visually with Baldrick's guide, you'll be cruising in no time at all
Have a great one All

Yeah, okay...so I read the manual. So it still has no direct fix for the GOP sequence header problem. So...the guide is also no good unless the program itself can be fixed to do this. If it can be so fixed without a demux/remux in another program please let us know how to do it. Otherwise the program just cannot do what it's supposed to do. I also have 2.5PE and I also get this: BUILD FAILED: GOP NOT BEFORE FIRST PIC (DVDErr -26302)...whatever that means. Nothing at Sonic website...
-
Well, the fix from the Sonic site is to recap/re-encode everything since DVDit can't insert the headers on it's own. I just checked my cap software (Video Studio) and it says:
Closed GOP count: 3
Sequence Header: 1
So, apparently, this IS DVD compatable with other programs, just not DVDit. If this is the wrong sequence for the encoder, please let me know what the right one is so I can change it. These are the defaults I have been using for the past year... -
WTF?!?!?!?! I put in the movies to play, reAlized I had selected the wrong one, so i removed it from the movie list AND THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE PROGRAM REMOVED THEM FROM MY HARDDRIVE--DO NOT PASS GO, DO NOT GO TO RECYCLING JUST GONE--DVDIT--MORE LIKE DVDSHIT!!!!
WARNING TO OTHERS IF YOU SELECT THE WRONG MOVIE BY ACCIDENT SHUT THE PROGRAM DOWN AND RETRY IT BECAUSE IF YOU DELETE IT OUT OF THE MOVIE SELECTION SCREEN ITS GONE FOR GOOD!!
-
A GOP sequence header problem would exist due to the way you encoded, it is a problem independent of DVDit. There is plenty of info out there about it (using closed headers, etc..)
DVDit is an excellent program. While no authoring program seems to incorporate every feature I need, it is by far the closest and most flexible (allowing mpeg1 or mpeg 2 as well as 352x480 which programs like DVD Architect will not allow)
I am watching closely to see how Adobe's Encore shapes up however...

PS. every question on here so far..thumbnails, chapters, etc...are all answered in the online help. Its very easy to navigate and find the info you are looking fro within DVDit. I know some people are just lazy, but I dont like to have to rely on others....check it out."Did you see what GOD just did to us??" - Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas -
I have been trying to create a DVD with DVDit PE but somehow I always get an error. I want to combine a video file m2v type with a 2 channel ac3 audio file. Everything goes well (menus, chapters,..) until I want to create the final DVD structure on my HD. Than I get an error message "build failed Unknown error (BRErr, 1)". Anyone know what I did wrong?

Before authoring with DVDitPE I recompress the audio to 48000hz with virtualdub and then encode to MPEG2 with TPMGEnc. How come then, that DVDit reencode the audio when set to PCM Audio? This takes about an hour per hour video/audio. How do I avoid that DVDit reencode the audio
Another ting - when DVDit is running it completely occupies all resources, and I cannot use the PC for other purposes AT ALL. I have a AMD 1700XP with 628MB RAM. My swap file is on the same drive as the program files. Could this be the cause
?
Cheers
Pete
