  1. When I imported a wav file into EditStudio, the icon has a question mark and highlighting it shows it has zero duration yet it plays fine (and displays its duration) in VLC Media Player, Foobar, and Audacity (which I used to export it after cleaning it up). I re-opened it in Audacity and exported it again. Same result.

NTSC format prefer AC3 audio. You can use LPCM, but not common. If the result will play in DVD player, than it is OK, if not, you may have to convert to AC3.
For conversion get BeSweet with BeLight (GUI), works fine and it is free.

  3. I'm talking about importing WAV audio for editing. EditStudio does not take AC3 as imput. I wonder if one of the plugins has gone bad because the previously working audio in another project no longer works either.

Yep, you need a wave file for editing. But is your wave file the correct bitrate, etc. for editing? For example, if you're editing DV-AVI files, the wave needs to be 48kHz, 16-bit stereo. EditStudio may be kicking the file back due to incompatible bitrate. 12-bit, 4 channel audio, often found on camcorder default settings, can be troublesome to certain editing programs...

  5. It is indeed 16-bit, 48Hz. As I mentioned, another project I was working on with WAV files, no longer plays the audio so I have to check and see if its a preference thing or reinstall it.
