    I am trying to recover a scratched dvd. Whenever I am trying to play the dvd, it only gets to like 5 of 8 chapters. I would like to know if they is a way that i can recover the file structure so that I can back up the dvd as was and not as is.

    You can try a freeware program called dvd decrypter or shareware DVDFab that will rip the files from your disc to your hd, then you can backup that copy. Dvd decrypter will try several times to re-read the difficult part. However it either program is unable to read a certain part of the damage disc after several tries, then it will skip that section (maybe a second or two ) and continue reading the rest. This will at least allow you to back as much as possible.
