  1. Hi,

    I've just read the FAQ, and there are several codecs available.

    Does all have the same quality when uncompressing dv video ?

    So which one is the best to use in avisynth

    * DirectShowSource (works without any codec but slow when seek in video)
    * ffdshow
    * Canopus DV Codec
    * Mainconcept DV Codec
    * Panasonic DV Codec

    Thanks

    You can also add the Cedocida DV codec to your list. When is the last time someone did a comparison? Force of habit has stuck me with the Panasonic DV Codec, but I'm not married to it. Nevertheless, I find it to be quite reliable, and it seems to work well with a lot of video software. It will be interesting to see if others in this forum have made their own comparisons.

    IIRC there's a comparison in the doom9 DV forum.

    Thanks, 2Bdecided. That link is: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=33526 (the first of several pages.)

    Edit: Oh, and there's also an updated thread that includes cedocida: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=98847

  6. Panasonic DV codec is buggy and always converts to RGB. This loses the darkest and lightest shades within the DV data. The conversion is a waste of CPU cycles if you don't need/want it (when feeding CCE for example).

    Cedocida is my favorite because it gives you a lot of control over the colorspace output and colorspace conversions.
