    Gday anybody

    problem with Adobe premiere 6.0
on XPsp2 3.2ghz 1gbram GT6600nvid card and stacks of storage

I have created many videos with this program have exported a finished product.have burnt and coverted the video to DVD and it plays well in my DVD player.

now i wish to go back to the original projects and fix up a few little errors nothing to drastic,

    now here is the problem,
the project opens but even before i change anything, i hit playback and the project runs for a little while at the correct speed, then decides it whats to speed up to 200% or more if i hit stop enventualy it stops and when i hit play all is good for a while then it speeds up again, this is happening on all of my projects.
and i havent speed the clips up

    what has gone wrong
i tryed to uninstall xvid codec, made no difference, but then again all was the same with the PC yesterday and the projects played fine then..

    please help

I pulled my Premiere 6.0 box off the shelf and it said (c) 2000. A banner said it was "Windows 2000 ready".

Xvid didn't exist then. I think 2004 maybe? Development started late 2001.

    ok not that then

any ideas what could be causing this problem

also noticed slightly jumpy play back with in adobe premiere its self.

leaning my towards some sort of video codec problem

maybe the program itself is corupt

does anybody know about this area of the program?

Premiere 6.0 was very buggy and needed several updates. Have you installed them? V6 was never good with MPeg import. Better to externally decompress or convert to DV format.

Version 6.5 was the last stable version.

You need to find the Premiere 6.02 patch. (Do a search.) Also, make sure your video file is DV-AVI, Type 2. If you try to play back video through a firewire device and the Premiere preview monitor at the same time, you will get jumpy motion. Premiere 6 is old, but workable if you know its limits. (Heck, I still have it on one of my home computers.)

you may or may not believe this but i fixed the problem

the problem was some FONTS that i installed after i had installed the prem6 program
i did a sytem restore to the day before and all worked out .. then noticed that the new fonts
were missing. so only put back in the 1 font i needed and all is good ,,

    thanks for all your input
