  1. I have a bunch of DVD's (commercial movies and self made ones) that I want to catalog. To that end I'm creating an Excel spreadsheet with info such as Title, subtitles, format (PAL or NTSC), media type (DVD5, DVD9, avi, mkv, BluRay, etc), etc. Is there a software that will retrieve all that info so I can export it to Excel? Otherwise I will have to manually insert each DVD in the DVD tray and use Cyberlink POwerDVD to check the info which is time consuming. Thanks for any suggestion.

If you go through so much trouble I would try to use database software, so you can use query to retrieve data you need.
As for importing I do not know, but think, you will have to do it manually.

I use Extreme Movie Manager. http://www.binaryworks.it/extrememoviemanager/

There are some catalog programs that can scan the barcode from the DVD cases if you have a lot of commercial movies. I find Excel very limited for cataloging. Many cataloging programs, like EMM, can access the internet movie databases and extract full information about your DVDs to add to your catalog database, including actors, plot, photos, etc., and sort them by dates, title, genre or other factors.

I use EMDB and are very happy with it. It's free and imports the movie info directly from the IMDB database.
It has export options but I don't know what they support.

  5. I use Movie Collector and are very happy with it. It imports the movie info directly from the IMDB database.
It has export options and one of them is 'to TXT' which is supported by Excel.

    There is a trialware version.

Extreme Movie Manager can play any cataloged video on your system by clicking on it, using your selected player. I use it to play ripped DVDs or Xvid/Divx videos over my LAN from a server in the back room. Other programs may be able to do this also. It searches your drives for video files, then you can DL DVD info from IMDB or similar. It costs about $15US and all future updates/upgrades are free.

Ant Movie Catalog is my choice. It has lots of macros for filling in the details and probably could play movies from the catalog if you wrote a small script to do it. Best of all, it's free.
