    Hi,
I have a little issue I'm hoping someone can help me resolve. Basically, I need to take a photo slideshow created in iView Media Pro and compress it to make it smaller (to send to clients). A 720x480 .mov file, with audio, comes out of iView at 156MB, not acceptable to e-mail to someone.

I brought that into ffmpegx and tried to run it out several different ways. Sometimes I get an error, other times it works, but with no audio. The file that did work (with no audio), was 32 MB, better (still maybe not ideal, but better). Could someone please let me know how you think I might be able to get this to work? I've included a pic of the "movie inspector" in quicktime, so you can see the parameters of the iView movie has.

Here's the result default target of avi DivX which stops after a second:

The one that works is DVD mpeg2enc, but there's no audio in the resulting mpg. Here's the log:

Your MOV file has multiple video streams. I think you need QuickTime to decode this correctly, as your file is build on features unique to QuickTime. The DVD mpeg2enc preset defaults to Decoding with QT (a setting in the Options tab), which is why that one does convert, where other presets fail.

As for the missing audio, could it be that your viewing the output file in QuickTime Player? QuickTime Player has a limitation that it will not output AC3 audio in muxed MPEG-2 files. The audio may be okay, it could be that this player just won't let you hear it. The log from mpeg2enc shows a successful audio conversion.
You could try changing the audio conversion codec to MP2 instead of AC3, which is more playback friendly to QuickTime Player.

Most of the presets that use the ffmpeg engine (notably not the mencoder presets) allow for Decoding with QuickTime, which may help converting the video.

The most foolproof would be QuickTime Pro, though.

Small files at full resolution won't happen. I would suggest H.264/AAC at reduced size with a limited bitrate.
