  1. As an experiment, I want to extract out the sub/idx files from a DVD. I am using VSRip to do this.
Then I used FairUse Wizard and converted the DVD to an avi. I put the avi and the sub/idx files in the same folder and played with Media Player Classic. The problem is that the subtitles are a too dark. The color of the subtitle pixels is not white, but rather a dark grey that does not show up well. (However, if I play the avi using KM Player, the subtitles are fine.) My question is, is there any way to adjust the brightness of the subtitles when using Media Player Classic? ? I have VobSub, but the color adjustments don't seem to work on sub/idx files. Could the dark subtitles be the fault of VSRip? Is there another software besides VSRip that will extract sub/idx files? When I play the original DVD using Media Player Classic, the subtitles are also rather dark, but when I play the DVD in a standalone, the subtitles seem to be OK.

  2. NEW INFO. I think the first DVD had poor quality subtitles. I tried another DVD and used Fair Use Wizard to make the avi, then used VSRip to extract the sub/idx subtitles and then played the avi (with sub/idx subtitles) with Media Player Classic and the subtitles looked fine.
I have another question. Baldrick already gave me a short answer, but I want more choices. My question is:
    1) What software can be used to convert avi (with sub/idx Chinese subtitles) to DVD? Baldrick said convertxtodvd but I would like to know if there are any other softwares that will do this.
    2) What software will adjust the timing of Chinese idx/sub subtitles? (I don't want to adjust the timing in the software player.) Sub Resync tool (VobSub) was mentioned, but I want to know if there are any other tools that will adjust the timing of idx/sub subtitles. I think it is better to experiment with a variety of tools and see which one is the best.

For PAL subtitles, you can also use SubtitleCreator. For NTSC ones, it has a bug, so I don't advice to use it in that case.
