I'm trying to get videos to play on the 160 x 128 display on my iAudio U3 player. It turns out it's VERY demanding in terms of video compression and such. It seems it can only play the videos that was delivered with it...

Using VirtualDub and GSpot, I've tried to create files that mimic the settings used in the delivered files:

I know how to come close, as in this case:

But the file still won't play on the U3 player. The big differences are with PVOP and keyframe distance (except that I turned off the audio). What can I do in VirtualDub to set these right too?

I would suggest using any conversion software that came with the player itself. Usually those are calibrated properly to work with the player.

You can also use super or 3gp converter to convert to portable video formats.

  3. The file that works is all I frames. The one that doesn't is both I and P frames. Set Xvid to produce all I frames and see if that works. To do this set the Maximum I-frame Interval to 1:

Thank you both. Making that chang in VirtualDub corrected the differences (PVOP disappeared too), so the files look identical in GSpot, but my file is still unplayable on my player! However, I found that the manufacturer has indeed a conversion program. It doesn't do as good a job as VirtualDub (image quality is noticably poorer) but it's okay.

  5. I'm pretty sure there was another Cowan A2 thread that dealt with this a while back. You might search for it.
