  1. I have a 60 gig brand new hard drive. I recently partitioned it with fdisk, and put windows on it. It is only recognizing 30 gigs. I just did a primary dos partition and put the os on, and this is what it says. I have been told to re-partition it, but I don't know how to do that. I have already reformatted the drive and I am playing around with fdisk, and I don't know hot to do this??? Anyone ever encountered this problem.

I hate seeing words put together sometimes like , playing with fdisk don't know what I'm doing, these words just bring out the fear. LOL.

is the drive setup properly in the bios? Also what version of windows are you trying to install? You mentioned dos partition, FAT32 or FAT16?

what size does the bios show it as? Before we jump to partitioning out the drive here. How old is the motherboard? Another thing is check to see if you have the latest bios for your motherboard. Very key thing when dealing with new hardware especially larger drives. Also check out:

If you don't know the maker of your motherboard check here:

Since you really don't know what your doing I'd suggest downloading the most recent version of MaxBlast (from Maxtor's website), and create a bootable floppy and pur the MaxBlast on it. Then boot from the floppy and use the MaxBlast software to create your partition. You don't have to have a Maxtor drive to use it (I'm reasonably sure of this). My guess is that other HD manufacturers have something similiar also but I've never used their software because Maxtors rule.

    Go here to find MaxBlast
