Hey guys,
I have an avi file that I can't hear the audio for it. Everytime I use media player classic, I get this message:
Media Type 0:
--------------------------
Audio: 0x6771 48000Hz stereo 128Kbps
AM_MEDIA_TYPE:
majortype: MEDIATYPE_Audio {73647561-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}

formattype: FORMAT_WaveFormatEx {05589F81-C356-11CE-BF01-00AA0055595A}

bTemporalCompression: 0
lSampleSize: 1
cbFormat: 26
WAVEFORMATEX:
wFormatTag: 0x6771
nChannels: 2
nSamplesPerSec: 48000
nAvgBytesPerSec: 16000
nBlockAlign: 1
wBitsPerSample: 16
cbSize: 8 (extra bytes)
pbFormat:

0010: 08 00|01 02 02 20 31 12 01 20 ..... 1..
I got avicodec, and this is what the program tells me:
Audio : 108 MB, 128 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x6771 = Ogg Vorbis (mode 3+), Unsupported
So yeah, I went to the Vorbis website, tried downloading some stuff, but nothing good happens. I can't hear the audio for this file (the video is good). I don't know where to reach the Ogg Vorbis mode 3+ codecs. Their website is really confusing. Can you guys tell me what do download and WHAT SETTINGS TO MESS WITH so that I can fix this problem? Thanks,
Bravo

http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/oggcodecs_0.71.0946.exe should be the one you want for Media pLayer Classic (or any DirectShow based player)
Read my blog here.

I tried both of your options but I was unable to hear anything. What is wrong with my computer?
-
Yeah I tried both solutions, but it didn't work. VCL or VLC media player didn't work. But some poeple that got the same file said that for some of them it worked but for some of them it didn't so I don't know what other thing to try.

Try converting video's audio stream to other format on a computer that had "working" video. Maybe it's just codecs or other low-level system thing.
video is worth a thousand images -

outdated form of the WAV container -
hmmm, if it is outdated or I need to convert it, what can I use and how do I do it?
-
Winamp was unable to fix the problem.
IIWY, I would first try to demux the pseudo-WAV with VirtualDub or
AVI-Mux GUI. Then I would look for a method to un-wrap the Vorbis audio.
Good-luck! -
More suggestions: mplayer, mencoder, ffmpeg.

[ e d i t ] To whom this may interest:
Although FFmpeg has introduced a solution to put Vorbis audio into AVI files,
this "extension" is not compatible with existing Vorbis decoders for DirectShow and ACM.
Putting Vorbis in an AVI container is very problematic. The way Nandub stored Vorbis
audio streams in AVI files occasionally caused desychronisation when seeking.
