Was wondering if there is a favorite brand of dvd or particular BD player that has resume function. I have tried several (Phillips) and when you turn it off, you have to scan thru the movie to get back where you left off. Not my cup of tea. TIA.

  2. This works ons some Philips players: To resume press Play when you see the "Load" message right after turning on the player. It works with my DVP-5960.

You could do what I do - I stop my movies at time increments exactly divisible by 5 such as at the 35 minute mark, or the 40 minute mark, or at 1 hour and 10 minutes and so on. I do very well at remembering these and I can just jump back to where I was the next day if I wish.

I know that some people can't live without this Resume function, but honestly most of us have managed to live very well without it and I think you guys who must have it have failed to understand how little demand there really is for it. That's why you're having trouble finding it - it's just not all that important to the vast majority of consumers.

At this time the only BD player I would recommend is the PS3. You are quite probably throwing away your money on any other player as the PS3 is the only player I know of for sure that completely supports the final BD spec. Most players sold today do NOT support the final release of the spec.
You'll be able to watch your movies on them, but bonus features on newer discs will not work at all. I have no idea whether the PS3 supports the Resume function or not as I don't have one.

  4. The Oppos do it. And when you restart the next time it asks if you want to go to the spot it saved.

  5. Hmmm......

Philips 5982 here. I turn it back on and it plays from where I left off or I can start over. To clarify it puts text on the screen telling me what to press to start over otherwise it defaults to playing from where I left off.

This only works on standard DVDs, not on Divx on DVD or USB.

On the Philips 5960, an older model, I have to do as jagabo says and press play when it is laoding. Maybe the philips you tried were older models?

Perhaps it was an older model. I will probably get another newer model and see what happens. Txs.
