Right now I'm playing around with the trial and what I'd like to do is find an easy program that accepts m2ts (this program does) and lets me max out the mpeg2 (vob) video. I believe 9500 is the max for DVD compliance and I can only get the program to encode at about 7800 when I bump the profile to 8400 MB (or something like that).

I attempted to increase the size to 10000 MB thinking I could 'fool it' into encoding at a higher bitrate but 'convert' balked and reset it down to 8400ish - claiming it was too big to fit on a DVD. I don't care about that because I'm not necessarily trying to fit the file onto a DL DVD.

Anyone know where the profiles are stored in this software and how to tweak them in the registry.? It would be much appreciated.

It's trying to keep your DVD compliant so it can be played in most set top DVD players. If you want higher quality looking Mpegs, look into FAVC which does 2 pass encoding.

I already understand why it's that way. And that's not what I care about. It accepts .m2ts easily and that's what is most important to me.

If anyone knows if the profile is easily hackable/modable I would appreciate the info. All I really want to do is increase the final size to 10000 MB (Because I assume the conversion would increase the bitrate upwards. I will also try demuxing the source and allowing convertx to use all 8400MB on the video and see what results I get.)

The bitrate is variable based on the length of your source files. In other words, it only makes the bitrate decision when it's ready to encode. So try it with less .M2TS files. I doubt it'll go above 9500, though.

convertx is not a standard encoder that you can alter all it's settings, and is not meant to be. it is for those that want easy and not a lot of settings to fret over.

if you want a "real" encoder you can set the way you want, you're going to have to look elsewhere.
