  1. Well, not all of them. But I seemed to have suddenly lost access to (at least) my XVid and AC3 codecs. Now VirtualdubMod doesn't work. Neither does TMPGEnc or CCE.

What could have happened? Where did they go? (Did not make any changes to system or software.)

    Possible fix?

    Thanks in advance.

Restore your OS, but be careful. Return it to the nearest date before you've noticed this problem. You might loose some files (antivirus update files) or programs that you have installed (you'll have to re-install them once again).

Have you recently installed other software? It's possible that a newly installed program has stomped on your system.

  4. Restore my OS??

No, I haven't installed anything new. And what's strange is that other video software works fine: Media Player Classic, VLC, ConvertXtoDVD, Canopus ProCoder. And I can play files within GSpot.

    Pretty strange.

  5. MPC and VLC use their own built in codecs. VirtualDub, TMPGEnc and CCE use VFW codecs. Most media players use DirectShow codecs. It sounds like your VFW system is messed up.

Restore with Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore. Go back to a point before you had problems.

Not sure. It's also strange how this seemed to just happen.

BTW, using the "Fix Broken Codecs" utility within the K-Lite mini-pack also did the job.
