Found this G.Skill compatability list for my memory and it lists my board.

    http://www.gskill.us/144.pdf

I'll try changing the settings in BIOS and see how it goes.

When you flashed your mobo bios then rebooted did you set to LOAD TO FAIL SAFE DEFAULT SETTINGS? If it's set that way then the mobo should automatically read your GSKILL ram correctly.

No, the website said to load optimized defaults. I did choose the failsafe setting later but didn't notice any change.

I tried using the Easytune software and set it to Extreme and didn't notice any difference but when I just went in and changed the settings according to G.SKILL's instructions, it was set to extreme @ 9x266. I went ahead and set it up for standard performance @ 8X333.

I just ran a benchmark and here are my results.

you should overclock via the motherboard bios. go into bios then hit ctrl F1 to open up Gigabyte's secret settings, click esc and then click on MITweeky thingy. then you can manually set everything to overclock. do a google search on your mobo and I'm sure you'll find how and what settings to change in the bios to overclock.

Thanks for the info. I'll play around with it some more tomorrow. I'm a lot happier with it now that I got it up to 2.66Ghz. It was pretty disappointing seeing it a 2.1Ghz when the stock speed on the Q6600 is 2.4Ghz..

I'm glad I bought the new board and glad I didn't give up and send it back.

Good to hear you finally got it up and running. Now the real fun starts when you overclock that q6600 w/the gigabyte mobo using the settings in the bios.

I used the G.SKILL PDF file that I linked to above to get to 2.66Ghz 8X333 in BIOS. To get to 3.2Ghz, do I just change the CPU Host Frequency to 400 and the System Memory Multiplier to 2.00?

The only way you'll know is to try it out. If it doesn't work the pc will not boot to windows. Then you'll have to reboot your pc and it will revert back to stock settings. Try googling your mobo model on overclocking and you'll see what others have their systems set to overclock a q6600. That's how I did it with overclocking my wolfdale e8400 cpu.

you should lock the fsb:dram multiplier to 1, not 2. then the ram will be at 400 and with a multiplier of 8 it will net 8x400 = 3.2GHz.
