For a ide pata dvd burner get a PIONEER 115D drive, a sata dvd burner get a SAMSUNG S203B or PIONEER 215. Your old drive is a ide pata therefore the PIONEER 115D would be a excellent choice. With the newer dvd burners you'll need to use a 80 conductor/40 pin ide cable for the drive to work correctly.

Rounded IDE 80 conductor/40 pin ide cable, $3.29

I've used those in the past and they work fine.

    IDE PATA, PIONEER 115D, $29.99

    SATA PIONEER 215, $30.99

I'm assuming you have a older type motherboard so getting another IDE PATA dvd burner is the best way to go.
SATA dvd burners may have compatibility problems with certain sata controller chipsets on the motherboards. I won't go into detail because it may confuse you. The PIONEER 115D is the best ide dvd burner in the market at this time.

  3. Well I went ahead and ordered it. I hope that is the problem. I honestly don't know what else it could be. I keep having the exact same problem, no matter what programs I use, or how long it takes me to copy the DVD. It's really stressing me out. I keep thinking it has to be something internally that's causing this problem because how can I keep having the exact same problem with every program and every method that I take.

  4. Just to restart here...

If the DVD you're trying to copy (that has protection on it) rips in DVD Shrink without any errors, most likely the files will be good. In Auto mode, DVD Shrink will shrink if needed, or won't if not.

When DVD Shrink can't handle a particular type of protection, it usually just stops with an error message and will refuse to rip at all. In this case, I would first look to either the media or your burner as the problem.

DVD Shrink is still great for shrinking, but not so good with the new copy protection schemes. Going forward, try this method...

    1. Rip DVD to hard drive with DVDFab HD Decrypter

    2. Shrink ripped DVD on your hard drive with DVD Shrink and have the program output an ISO file of the shrunk DVD.

    3. Use IMGBurn in WRITE MODE to burn the ISO file created DVD Shrink to a DVD.

2a. If ripped DVD does not require shrinking, burn the VIDEO_TS folder created by DVDFab HD Decrypter using IMGBurn in BUILD MODE to a DVD.

Basically the same process as before, but with two of the latest and greatest FREE programs.
