    Hi Everybody!
I recently released an updated version of MoKgVm2DVD (now called MKVtools) that now has the added capability of converting mkv videos into mp4 files. It's got a preset for converting files that are playable on iphones/ipods that I've been able to successfully test on my iphone and ipod.

I know that there is an interest out there for converting mkv videos into formats playable on the Apple TV, Xbox 360 and PS3. Unfortunately, I don't have any of those devices to test with. So I've got a beta of MKVtools at - http://emmgunn.com/betadownload.html - that has presets for all these devices that should theoretically work. I'm hoping that some of you might give it a try and provide some feedback either here or sent to emmgunnbeta@gmail.com. Thanks in advance for any help.

MKVtools will change .mkv files to either .avi or .mp4, though there are some limitations to the codecs it can handle. For example, it can't handle DTS audio. You don't have to buy it to convert .mkv files. It'll function unregistered. The two things that the registration will do is (1) get rid of a nag screen that pops up when you start a job, and (2) for "power users" it'll let you build up a queue of jobs so that you can, for example, process a number of files overnight, which it sounds like you don't need.

BTW, registration also encourages further development of the software. I know that sounds cliche and you've heard that form every shareware developer, but no one has shared with you the details of this encouragement. Here is how it works. Registration is $3.50. So for every two people that register, I can buy a 6-pack of Anchor Steam beer, and as everybody knows, it's impossible to get any decent programming done without and icy cold beer within easy reach .
