    G'day
I hope I'm in the right forum to ask this, if not please be kind to me. I'm an old bugger.

Is there any software to remove water marks from images: jpg, bmp?

    Thanks for any help

It depends on how they were put there. Most times they are part of the image with a JPEG, so not likely to remove them. Some companies put their name over images of their products and that's about impossible to remove. If it's just a small logo, maybe, but you would have to redraw that part of the image, which could take a lot of work and time. For freeware, try Gimp: http://www.gimp.org/

You could try Virtualdub and the DeLogo filter. It's often discussed on these forums for removing logos from videos, but I don't see any reason it wouldn't work with a bmp or jpg as VirtualDub is capable of opening both. The hard part is that you can't append a "white" frame to a single image for sampling. But if you're familiar with AviSynth it's an easy script to open the image and a white frame for sampling to build the filter files.

Edit: Actually, now that I think about it, the hard part would be getting the watermark against a black background, since you only have the one image. I think I'd still try it though.
