My five month old 'A4 Tech' optical (PS2) mouse is dragging the curser, occasionally, you know where you move the mouse and the curser stays behind and you have to jiggle the mouse to wake the curser up !
I've been considering one of these 'lazer' versions (1800dpi etc) . Does anyone know, are they better than the standard LED versions ? Are thy worth the extra cost ? I read somewhere they are mostly gaming mice for some reason, but howabout for normal everyday use ?

Only if you need increased x-y precision. They are popular for graphics touchup.

Yeah really fine control stuff only. I use a standard one and love it. Who needs that much fine control. Its just a mouse.

  4. Have you tried cleaning the lens?

  5. Ive had a Logitech G5 for a couple of years, and love it. Very precise motion, works on most surfaces, and no annoying habits. I use it mainly for non-game applications.

That being said, the LED mouse that I salvaged from a dumpster works nearly as well for most stuff. It's not as precise but it's quite adequate.

    Ofcourse !

The other thing I noticed on the Lazer mouse blurb is that you can adjust from 2000 to 1000 to 800 dpi reading sensitivity, but why would you want to do that ? How can it be too precise ?

For detail touch up or drawing on high resolution graphics.

Even if you could find an optical mouse that ran on a glass table, a mouse pad would be a good idea. Unless you are obsessive about cleaning, the little bits of dust and grit that accumulate on the glass will eventually cause wear spots and scratches to appear. I saw some very thin, translucent mouse pads at Office Depot the last time I was there.
