    We'll see in July (when they release it) how good it is.

    One thing to consider is that they're converting from analog to H264/MP4. When analog signals leave the airwaves in 2/2009 will BlackMagic's potential customer base for this product go away?

    Instead of analog-to-H264 wouldn't MPEG2-to-H264 be a more realistic scenario? (Of course, the connections would have to be different.)

    Just wondering....

    I think they're envisioning using it with video from VHS sources and the like. Just my guess.

    It doesn't have a tuner; CATV and SAT boxes do have Analog outputs...

    Good points. I was thinking about this product from the wrong perspective. My digital-to-analog converter (that cheap Zenith carried by CC and mostly paid for by the Feds' $40 debit card) would feed this thing very nicely.

    Wish my El Gato Hybrid output in MPEG4 instead of MPEG2 but, after all, that device simply passes through the MPEG2 from the digital airwaves.
