We just installed winxppro on top of raid 1. Everything went well, booted just fine. We connected the d: drive and now ntldr is missing. Disconnect the d: drive and it boots ok again.

Since you have multiple hard drives there should be some way to set the boot order of the drives. With only your raid array installed there is only one (logical) drive to boot. When you install the second drive there are two drives that could be booted from. The computer is attempting to boot the wrong drive.

I think that you are correct. We will keep trying the BIOS. Thanks

In my BIOS, under the Boot heading, there is a section called Boot Device Priority. In there you select, floppy, CD, Hard Drive, etc. There is a second menu called Hard Disk Drives. There you select boot priority of the hard drives.

In my BIOS there is a reset button. I selected that which resulted in setting up the BIOS from scratch. I believe that this is the cure. I have had three successful boots in a row with all hard drives connected. I appreciate your hanging in here and trying to help. As you might see if you look at my profile that this is not my computer but a neighbors. If he has anymore trouble I wll post a new request.
