If it is an ISO image, I would use Imgburn

Use Verbatim DVD+R DL discs for best results, but if you are one of those unfortunate people who must use DVD-R DL discs because of issues with your player, again stick to Verbatim. Using anything to burn except ImgBurn is asking for it not to work.

I find with IMG, I get best results when I burn at 2 or 1X.

Nero has become an average burning application for single layer discs, and a useless one for DL discs. Imgburn is consistent, and one of only a very small group that understands how to burn correctly to DL discs.

The defaults work just fine for most burning situations.

If you get the Made In Singapore Verbs (ID: MKM-001-00), they can support several speeds, depending on your drive: 2.4x; 4x; 6x; 8x
If you get the Made In India ones (ID: MKM-003-00), I believe they support 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x. These discs seem to be a bit less-consistent in some cases, from what I've read, so you might start with one of the lower speeds.

Of course, the speeds you're able to burn at also depend on what your drive supports. Make sure you have the latest firmware for it. Imgburn should list what speeds the media/drive combination support.

Correct for DVD+R DL burning. However, DVD-R DL has a special setting called "Use Layer Jump Recording" that probably should be turned on. I say probably because I know that Layer Jump is the right strategy for DVD-R DL burning, but I used an older version of ImgBurn a couple of years ago when I burned the only 3 DVD-R DL discs I've ever burned and that option was not available then, so I have no personal experience with it. Layer Jump is WRONG for DVD+R DL and should NOT be used when burning those discs. When I burned, it was also necessary at the time to manually set the layer break for the mid point of the DVD-R DL disc and this is not necessary for DVD+R DL discs where ImgBurn is smart enough to compute the layer break for you. These things are part of the reasons why I don't recommend DVD-R DL discs.
