I have a cap of a sporting event that was encoded using the wmv codec (.asf). The cap is about 2 hours long and the original file's audio is completely fine throughout the entire movie. Problem is, the cap contains the commercials which I wanted to remove. I used VirtualDub 1.7.8 and the wmv plugin. The movie opens fine, I get no warning messages, everything loads ok. I did the editing using direct stream copy for video and source audio/direct stream copy for the audio. The problem is, when I output it to AVI after the editing, the audio goes out of sync and it gets worse and worse as the video keeps playing. I'm not really a video editing master so I'm not sure if I did anything wrong. The whole thing seems pretty straight forward to me. Not sure why virtualdub screws up the sync during such a simple, straight forward procedure. Any help would be much appreciated.

Try latest 1.8.0 experimental (if it supports the wmv plugin ).
You could also try asfbin or Cut Assistant to cut the wmv without reconverting,
