I have some video files that have subtitles showing a couple of seconds late to the video and audio. Is there a way to sync up the subtitles to the video? Do I need to fix the subtitle file (like the timing code or something) or is there a program that lets me sync up subs with the video manually? I do have the original sub file, so it is not a hardsubbed video file.

    Thanks for your time.

Jubler should do this for you. If the off-sync timing is consistent (hopefully), you can apply a shift globally so all subtitles are moved the same amount.

    Thanks for the tip rumplestiltskin

I tried to run jubler and actually go it running (I tried before over and over again, so its a miracle). Jubler looked really complicated and the Mplayer would crap out on me at a certain point. I think it might be the video file's fault for that.

I was frustrated and looked around the net for a simpler solution. I finally found a sweet little beta software called Sears. It probably doesn't have all the bells and whistles that Jubler has, but it has a damn simple interface to understand. Even someone new to editing subs like me got a handle on the simple functions within minutes for manipulating the time codes and editing the text since there wasn't any weird computer language but simple english text to be edited.

*Update* I finally got the sub file that I edited from Sears to work on MKVmerge by converting it to .srt with a free online converter. The problem is if that website ever goes down I am boned. Anyone know a good subtitle converter? It doesn't matter if it is shareware or whatever.

I know this is years later but I thought I may aswell chime in incase someone else comes by.

Divxland media subtitler and Jubler will allow you to open whatever file and then save them to whatever format you like.
