  1. Got a dumb question but I'm looking for a program that I can use on the fly to convert avi/mpeg to divx w/out having to modify too much. The program I like the best is Fairuse but its got to be actual DVD (Video_TS, Etc) wrapped up into an iso file.
I'm wanting to transfer some home movies from my video camera into the PC and I pretty much just want to take that file and render it straight to a divx file. The only one I can think of is divx converter but I've had some luck and some bad luck w/ that one. Seems a little too buggy.
I've heard that the latest Pinnacle Studio can do most of everything I would need.. Capture Edit & Convert but from past experiences I don't fully trust that one either.

    Thanks for the help

    For conversion, try AutoGK.

Divx Converter was designed for morons to use. The fact that you used it does NOT mean that I am calling you a moron. In fact, I'd say your post is proof positive that you are not. But it has almost no user configurable features and is designed to be used by low tech people who don't want to learn anything and just want to click 1 or 2 buttons and get some output. It's less than ideal. I'm not surprised you didn't like it. I think it sucks.

Dr. Divx is pretty easy to use and has some useful user configurable options. If you buy the commercial Divx codec, it can be fully used with Dr. Divx, but if you don't buy the commercial codec, Dr. Divx will limit you to lower quality encodes. They may be good enough for you, but you'd have to test it to see. I like Dr. Divx and although I rarely encode to Divx, if I do encode to Divx, it's what I use. I am much less enthused about AutoGK, but that is just my personal bias here. If you are working with ISO files, that might be a problem, but you could always install Daemon Tools to mount the ISOs and work from that.
