  1. I picked up this DVD player just today (order arrived after a couple of weeks). Menus look fine but when the movie actually starts, it's blocky snow - unwatchable. The sound is sort of OK (stutters). The display problem happens with VGA or composite outputs.

Before I send it back as being defective (I sent an email to their customer support) I'd like to know - is this what it looks like if the player is the wrong region? Is there some other setting or common problem that would cause this? I've had a bunch of DVD players and none of the have had this problem before, this particular model is important to me for its VGA output.

    Thanks

This is not a wrong region problem. If that were the case, you'd see a message on the screen saying that the DVD was in the wrong region and the player would never start playing it. This doesn't sound like a PAL/NTSC issue either where the player is sending the wrong signal to the TV. PAL/NTSC issues will have black and white video which may scroll constantly. Either the player is defective or you did not set up the video output correctly and the video output is trying to use something other than what you think it should be using.
