    Hi all,
I have two seperate AVIs that I'd like to convert in to one DVD (VOBs, etc.).
How do I go about doing so? I tried using VirtualDub to append the one AVI to the end of the other, but it gave me an error that the streams don't match. I have no idea how to resolve this issue. If the merging HAD worked, I would've used WinAVI to create the one DVD.
    Any ideas, anyone?
    Thanks,
    Justin

Frankly, I wouldn't use WinAVI to wipe my @r$e. The space it takes up on your HDD could be better filled by something useful, like empty space.

If you want a seamless join, try DVD Flick. Load the first part as a title, then click on Edit title and add the second half. Create your DVD and burn it with Imgburn.

Then uninstall WinAVI. trust me, you will be doing yourself a favour in the long run.

Thanks. I'll try out what you suggested. I'm just curious though... what exactly is it that's so bad about WinAVI?

WinAVI has a long history of being OK, if low quality one release, then horribly crash prone the next. For several years we were inundated with angry WinAVI users who couldn't get it to work, and could not get anyone at WinAVI support to answer a phone or return an email. On top of that, every second day the forums here were spammed by the company that produced WinAVI. The saddest part about all this was that the only reason anyone used WinAVI was because it was so easily pirated.

So in summary : it is a low quality, unreliable tool produced by an underhanded, low rent company. What's to like ?

Damn. I just tried your method and all was well, 'til I tried to add the second AVI. It brought up an error message that the dimensions, etc. have to be equal. Damn! I guess I'm going to have to do some manual editing before I can go any further.
Any suggestions on how to fix my problem? ... will VirtualDub be of any use?
    Thanks again,
    Justin

I discovered that the only difference between the two AVIs are the frame rates. However, if I change the one in VirtualDub, everything becomes screwed up... arg!

Do you mean to start g-spot, load the first clip, then post a screenshot of what g-spot displays... then do the same for the second clip? I'm sorry I'm not sure of what you mean.

load the video into g-spot and use alt-prtscn to grab a screenshot. Paste it into MS Paint, save it as a jpg, then repeat for the second clip. Post both grabs here so we can see what's happening.

Guns1inger, did I do what you meant properly?

  15. These look like 2 TV episodes. Did you want to join them or just make a DVD with 2 episodes (2 titles)?

If you just wanted to make a DVD with 2 titles, DVD flick (suggested above) or FAVC will encode & author with menus - this is very easy and both are free

You cannot append the files because of the different frame rates. One option would be to convert the fps to match the other. This is more difficult to do.

Personally I would go for option #1. The new version of convertxtodvd will also do what FAVC does, but it has the option to join seamlessly and should convert your fps to match too. Unfortunately it's not free.

    Good luck

Oh... I simply wanted to create a DVD with the two episodes (2 titles). I thought that appending them was the only option.

poisondeathray is right. Two titles is all you need. I would use FAVC, but that is just personal preference.

Thanks guys. Simply adding the second AVI as another title didn't occur to me. I'll put on my dunce cap now. I used DVD Flick and it did a good enough job for me. Thanks again.
