    The description from: http://www.jakeludington.com/

    VirtualDubMod

The Jake Ludington mod of VirtualDubMod is a video capture, editing and processing utility for Windows. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDubMod ads MPEG-2 support to the base configuration of VirtualDub, in addition to native support for MPEG-1 and BMP. Jake's distribution includes AVISynth templates and 3rd party filters useful for video editing
The only thing I see added to the regular VD Mod is AVIsynth templates and third party filters. Both those are readily available. You could always ask Mr. Ludington on his website.

EDIT: Looks like jagabo has a better answer.

  5. And all the templates do is automatically create the one line AviSynth script:

    DirectShowSource("filename.ext")

You can easily create these yourself with notepad. In fact, if you're going to do this you might as well use the original VirtualDub which is updated regularly and has fewer bugs.

However, VDubMod has an AVS script editor. Simple, but useful. No sign of that appearing in VirtualDub.
(Yes, I know and use AvsP for more complex AVS coding, but the script editor is good for tweaking filters and Trims.)

Rolling your own AVISynth scripts and using the more frequently updated VirtualDub are definitely the way to go if you plan to do frequent work with the two programs. I started distributing a version of VirtualDubMod with scripts added because it cut down on dozens of emails from people who couldn't figure out how to save a text file with a .avs extension.

The Jake Ludington version of VirtualDubMod is still available for those who want it.

LOL. I guess many people leave the "Hide extensions for known file types" option enabled in Windows. That should never even have been an option in Windows. The extension should always been displayed.
