Possibly a dumb newbie question but here goes. And apologies if it isn't in the right section.

I have a Sony RDR-GXD360 DVD recorder using which I have recorded to DVD-RW(video) a whole mess of home movies. But I can't seem to get my PC to copy the discs.

I have managed to get Nero Express 2 to copy the video to a disc but no audio followed it.

I'm hoping that it is just a software issue and with the right application I can continue to use the Sony box and copy the DVDs to a format I can play on other DVD boxes - got to make copies to send to Granny.

    Any steers greatly appreciated.

Is it a standard dvd-video(It should be a VIDEO_TS folder with vob, ifo, bup files) or some other format?
Did you make a disc copy in nero express?
Don't you hear any audio when you play it on your computer or/and standalone dvd player?

  3. You probably need an AC3 filter.

    Thanks for the swift response.

Unfortunately I erased the DVD copy that gave video without sound. I can't recall the Nuro method so I'll try a couple of repeats this weekend.

I've checked a couple of the Sony created 'masters' and there seem to be two formats in play. One has the VIDEO_TS folder (but these won't play on my XP PC) one has a folder called DVD_RTAV and a .GROW file.

Did you finalize the disk? I have a Maganavox DVD recorder and if I use anything but DVD+RW disks in it, I have to finalize the disk or it will not play in anything other than that recorder. For DVD+RW disks, I don't have to finalize and it plays OK and my PCs can read it.

Coincidentally, I usually record on this deck using DVD+RW disks, then do simple edits (usually I-frame cuts only) on the PC before burning to DVD+/-R.
