Hi there i think there is no place but here where i can ask about this.. I want to buy the Samsung SH-S203 DVD-RW- DL

But in my country the only available ones are the SATA version so i want to know if my mother board will be compatible with it because it's kinda old and i am not Sure if its SATA ports are able to deal with DVDRW.

My Mobo is the ASUS P4RD1-MX which is kind old and i ran everest to check the SATA version and here is what it said

    SCSI and RAID controllers:
    SCSI/RAID Host Controller
    ULi SATA/RAID Controller (M1573) 1.0.0.5

So i am not sure if it's compatible with DVDRW or not..

    Thanks alot.

The SAMSUNG SATA S203 dvd burner will not work correctly with the SATA controllers on your ASUS P4RD1-MX mobo. You'll have to use a PCI SATA CONTROLLER card that has the SILICON IMAGE 3112/3114/3512 chipset for the SAMSUNG SATA S203 drive to work. This is well documented at Cdfreaks.com.

Your mobo SATA controller chipset supports only hard drives. If you get the PCI SATA CONTROLLER card make sure you also DISABLE RAID in mobo BIOS.

I would recommend a SI chipset over the VIA chipset one you linked to. This is one from the same dealer: http://www.chiefvalue.com/product-_-productdetails.cv_-_item--CE00029919010060
