  1. Hi all,

I have never owned a camcorder and am an absolute newbie...

...so I need some good help!

I am looking to buy a camcorder from the US (Samsung SC X300L) and I would like to know if I will be able to play videos on PAL equipment. I am sure that some of you can help me out with this, so let's here you!!! 8) Thanks.

I also wanted to know if the videos I would make with it can play on an Xbox with XBMC.

    Thanks again,

    Bad choice read this
    Samsung SC X300L

You would need to carry a laptop and gain skills to make that camcorder useful. If you author a NTSC DVD on the laptop it will play on most PAL DVD players.

Call Samsung and ask about Xbox with XBMC.

Think through your workflow before buying a camcorder and know what display devices you are likely to have.

If you are from Italy, try to obtain a PAL model camcorder at an international shop in major hotels or duty free shops. They may also offer an international warranty. I advise against buying a model intended for use in the USA unless you know every detail about compatibility.

  4. Aside from whether it's the "right" camcorder or not, NTSC Divx AVI files usually will play on PAL divx certified players. The video might be a little jerky though.

  5. Hi all and thanks for your replies!

Having read the review you posted, edDV, and knowing that the video that would play on PAL equipment might be jerky made me think twice on getting it. Thanks.

Have a good day you all!
