A monitor is a monitor...a TV is a TV. Square peg, round hole. Round peg, square hole. The square is actually more of a rectangle. There are big differences and the application would determine what product would best suit the requirement.

Many users seem to like using a 24" monitor for gaming, but to me it just seems like overkill. I finally have a PC and video card fast enough to run new games at 1680x1050 with the quality settings on high. Moving up to a 24" monitor would mean running at 1920x1200 and I would then again have to reduce the quality settings.

Why are they exclusive? I run two big LCDs on my main workstation at home that are 1920x1200/1080 off one video card. One is 24" and one is 37". The 24" is good for gaming. Any bigger and I'd have to sit further away from it. The 37" never gets used for gaming, it is for home theater purposes and extra pixel real estate for design/layout apps. The difference between a good 1080p LCD and that Dell monitor is a little extra vertical resolution and a quicker refresh time. Dollar for dollar the 1080p LCD TV with DVI inputs is probably going to be the better investment overall.
