I have a Sony Optiarc DVD drive, and I am having a few problems with it. In Windows Explorer, it is labeled as a CD-ROM drive, not a DVD-RAM drive. When I insert a blank DVD, it asks me which program to use to open E:/, and none of these programs work. CDs work fine in the drive though. Please help!

Some drives show as a CD drive until a DVD is inserted. Does it read or burn DVDs at all? What about commercial DVDs?
The DVD laser and the CD laser are separate, so one can fail and the other still operate. How long have you had the drive?

If all else fails you could try cleaning the laser lens, though usually the CD part wouldn't work either if that was the problem.
For DVD media, have you tried any different brands, or DVD - or + types? Updating the firmware? Changing the IDE cable? Any other problems with the computer?

If all this fails, maybe replacement time.

    And welcome to our forums.

I hope that's just a symptom of another(& well-known) annoying bug of Windows Exploder.
A hard reboot(shutdown + turn-on) should be sufficient to fix the problem.
