    1. What in the world is "deinterlace"? From what I gather it is like something about removing artifacts (no clue what that means either) mixed in with certain types of video or something.

    2. What is the "batch Unpacker" used for? I have it sitting on my imac wondering what in the world do I do with it. All I got from the description around the net is that it unpacks streams or something for avi files.

    3. What do I need and how do I hook up my iMac to my 42'' HD-TV through component video. I tried to hook up my mac to my HD-TV through the apple mini-dvi and S-video. The quality isn't as good as I hoped. My friend said component video would be better and my HD-TV support component video. I was just wondering does it would work.

    Thanks for your time.

    Wikipedia is your friend:

    1. deinterlacing

    Google is your friend:

    2. batch unpacker made by merkonk? You must have downloaded
it at some point; I have his MoKgVm2DVD, but don't have/use this....

    3. Hadn't tried this but you would need something like this:

    hooking imac to HDTV
it's pretty daunting of a task, and
    not worth the trouble IMHO.

    Vidhunter,

I don't see which iMac you have in your profile so I'll just guess at a solution.

Apple sells a $20 adapter to take your mini-DVI to standard DVI. Then something like this:

    http://sewelldirect.com/dvivideoadapter.asp

...would take the DVI to component.

That should take care of the physical connections (probably) but I can't vouch for the quality.

I went from DVI to VGA (Mac mini to HDTV) and the quality is fine; you sure you can't go in that direction?

Thanks terryj, wikipedia and google are indeed good friends. Very helpful descriptions. I guess I dont need to use the deinterlace option if I dont have any video captured from analog tv. Looks like I can remove batch unpacker since I haven't seen any "stuttering" or "jerkiness" in my avi video.

From mini-DVI to DVI to component video, I do get sound right? Is there any quality loss through the process of going through two different adapters? Also, the link that terryj provided mentioned something about mini-DVI to DVI to HDMI. Is there a difference between the two? I think my HDTV has place for HDMI somewhere near the back.

hmm... maybe I should write my mac specs.

Here they are, I will post them in my profile after this post.

    Intel Core 2 Duo
    2 GHz Processor Speed
    1 GB RAM
    ATY,RadeonX1600 Graphics

I would agree with rumplestiltskin in the above quote.

I have mine set up via VGA and the quality is awesome and I have almost exactly the same system you are using...

Does your HDTV have a PC (VGA) connection

If yes use this -----> http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=M9320G/A

Then buy an extension VGA cable long enough to reach your HDTV

Yup. I do have a VGA connection. Good quality you say...ill be sure to try that out then. Less converters to buy.

Man its gonna be sweet hooking up my mac to the HDTV. I can watch tv and surf the net at the same time on my HDTV if I route the cable to my eyetv hybrid. One question tho. If I run windows through boot camp, it would still work right? It wouldn't mess up the picture or anything on the HDTV, would it? I haven't tried it yet so Im not sure if it would be affected or not. If not, ill be gaming away with the PS and PS2 emulator from the windows side of my mac on the HDTV.
